Information: The group of Dr. Songyang Zhang in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Louisiana at Lafayette has multiple fully funded Ph.D. openings (tuition + stipend) available in Fall 2024. Successful candidates will be working in the broad area of signal processing and machine learning, including the following topics:
1)Generative Learning for Wireless Communications (Semantic Communication/Federated Learning)
2)Physics-Embedded Machine Learning for Remote Sensing
3)Interpretable Graph Signal Processing and Graph Learning

Dr. Songyang Zhang: is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. From 2021-2023, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California at Davis, where he also received the Ph.D. degree in 2021. He was awarded the 2020 IEEE ICIP Best Paper Finalist and 2022 Best TCSVT Reviewer. His current research interests include signal processing and learning over graphs, federated learning, physics-embedded neural networks, and wireless communications. Qualification: We are looking for highly motivated students with Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees from relevant science and engineering backgrounds, such as Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, etc. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting satisfactory official English language proficiency test scores (TOEFL: 79; IELTS: 6.5).
